Concept + Solution

A family home for multiple generations which had become outgrown by the owners required a drastic rethink. The family needed more quality space, and a fresh layout that would work for them and their everyday living needs.

A ground floor bedroom was an essential requirement as mobility issues meant that one of the parents could not use the stairs.

We decided that the use of permitted development rights for the semi-detached house gave the best possible options for maximising the space, this included;

- 6 Meter deep rear extension (prior approval for larger home extension) – living space opening onto the patio garden

- Side extension (permitted development/ PDA)– To accommodate the ground floor bedroom.

- Loft conversion – to get an additional large bedroom with En-suite Bathroom.

- Total 4 large double bedrooms, each one with its own en-suite Bathroom– this meant that everyone living in the house could be fully independent in terms of privacy.

- The layout was reconfigured on the ground floor so that the kitchen was put into the front room of the house, this allowed a fully open plan living and dining space to rear opening onto the garden for entertaining.
